Let’s pass the bill.
I’m exhausted. After the budget battles today, I came home and have been working up a Keynote on HB587 to explain it. There seems to be 50 pages worth of material crammed into the 9 pages of HB587, and invariably my section “summaries” are longer than the sections themselves! Time for a break and come back to it Friday.

HB 587, like the voter photo id law, is a solution looking for a problem. Our problems are not regulations, rather they are jobs, jobs, jobs, etc. and HB 587 will do absolutely nothing to solve those problems. I will never understand the fulminations and paranoia of those who oppose any regulation of anything. This bill will be used by corporations to tie the hands of anyone attempting to obtain redress from businesses and corporations – a hard thing to do now.
It seems to me that both photo ID and reducing employer regulations are both good for NC. This past election I was a poll watcher and was applauded but the fact that no ID was required at all. This is shear nonsense. You need an ID to cash a check, open a bank account, get a charge card, get a passport or visa but the most important elected offices of our nation and our state require nothing to prove who you are. I support voter ID and always will. What is so wrong with proving that? It is a step in the right direction.
As far as the H587 jobs bill, many new employers do not want to move to NC due to all the mandatory regulations forced on them by our government. Removing regulations will help create jobs. Much study and work was put into this bill. The governor herself, proposed many of the items in this bill last October. The supporting members are just following her suggestions. This is a non-partisan solution to the future of NC.
